PM Modi on Kolkata Case: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally in Jalgaon, Maharashtra on Sunday (August 25), warned the people who commit crimes against women without naming them on the Kolkata rape-murder case. He also made it clear that those who help the criminals will not be spared. PM Modi indirectly told the government of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that everyone will be held accountable and this message should be very clear from top to bottom.
Questions are being raised on the Mamata government regarding the Kolkata rape case. The West Bengal Police system is also under question. This is the reason why PM Modi has warned the officials of Bengal and the government there from Maharashtra itself. PM Modi said that crimes against women are such for which no apology can be given. From hospital to school, at whatever level negligence occurs, those who do this will be held accountable.
Crimes against women are unpardonable sins: PM Modi
PM Modi had arrived in Jalgaon, Maharashtra on Sunday to participate in the Lakhpati Didi conference. Here, without mentioning the Kolkata case, he said, “Today I will once again tell every political party in the country and the state government that crime against women is an unpardonable sin. Whoever is guilty, he should not be spared. Those who help him in any way should not be spared.”
He said, “Whether it is a hospital, school, office or police system… negligence at any level should be held accountable. Our government is also continuously making laws stricter to give the harshest punishment to those who commit atrocities on women.” He said that protecting women is our biggest responsibility as a society. Laws are being made stricter to give severe punishment to those who commit crimes against women.
Our government is fully committed to making the lives of mothers and sisters easier. This enthusiasm and confidence of Lakhpati Didis in Jalgaon, Maharashtra is amazing. My salute to Lakhpati didis across the country.https://t.co/nMVX30SAci

Why did Mamata government come on the back foot on Kolkata incident?
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government seems to be coming on the back foot on the Kolkata incident. The biggest reason for this is that the accused who is accused of this brutality is himself a volunteer of Kolkata Police. The victim’s family has alleged that they were informed about her suicide first. In such a situation, the police of Mamata government is accused of trying to suppress the case. However, the police has denied this.
On the other hand, the people protesting at the RG Kar Medical College where the victim was raped were attacked on August 14. Not only this, but there was vandalism there. Opposition parties including BJP alleged that the Mamata government tried to destroy the evidence. BJP even said that the miscreants who attacked were associated with TMC. The negligence of Kolkata Police has also increased the trouble of Mamata government.
The trouble of Mamata government is also increasing because a few months ago there was news of violence against women in Sandeshkhali. After this, now a woman doctor has been brutalized in the medical college. These crimes are being seen as the failure of Mamata government, because even after having a woman CM, crimes against women are not stopping in the state. This issue is going to be raised in the assembly elections as well.
Why is PM Modi’s comment important?
PM Modi’s comment on the Kolkata case is important because 11 lakh Lakhpati Didis had reached the Lakhpati Didi program in Jalgaon where he had reached to address. PM Modi has shown through this statement that his government is fully committed to the safety of women. Along with appeasing women, PM Modi wants to attract half the population of the country to his side. His comment is also important because even after the Kolkata case, reports of violence against women have emerged from many places.
