Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reached Brazil to attend the G20 summit after completing his first visit to Nigeria. After arriving here, PM Modi wrote on the social media platform X that he has landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the G20 Summit. I am looking forward to the deliberations of the summit and meaningful interactions with various world leaders.
In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil on Monday on the second leg of his three-nation visit, during which he will attend the G20 Summit. Announcing PM Modi’s arrival in Brazil, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Brazil Summit. It also shared pictures of PM Modi’s welcome at the airport.
PM Modi to attend G20 Summit
PM Modi will attend the 19th G20 Summit in Brazil as a member of the Troika. India is part of the G20 Troika along with Brazil and South Africa. Along with PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden will be among the leaders attending the Rio de Janeiro summit today and tomorrow (November 18-19).
In the third and final leg of his visit, PM Modi will visit Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This will be the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in over 50 years.
Building India’s legacy
PM Modi had said in his departure statement on Saturday that this year, Brazil has built India’s legacy. I look forward to fruitful discussions keeping in mind our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. I will also use this opportunity to exchange views on furthering bilateral cooperation with several other leaders.
Inclusion of the 55-nation African Union as a permanent member of the G20 and preparation of a leaders’ declaration to overcome deep differences on the Ukraine conflict were seen as major milestones of India’s G20 presidency last year.
First visit to Nigeria in 17 years
During his visit to Nigeria, he held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian community. PM Modi reached the Nigerian capital early Sunday. This was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in the last 17 years.
After concluding the visit, PM Modi wrote on X, Thank you Nigeria for the fruitful visit. This visit will strengthen and encourage India-Nigeria friendship. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concludes his visit to Abuja, Nigeria.
PM Modi receives Grand Commander honor
During the visit, Modi was awarded Nigeria’s national honor Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON). He became the second foreign dignitary to receive this honor. Earlier in 1969, this honor was given to Queen Elizabeth of Britain.
