Prayagraj: The famous case of the death of Aman Gautam of Dalit community in police custody in UP’s capital Lucknow has reached the Human Rights Commission. A complaint has been lodged in this case in the National and Uttar Pradesh State Human Rights Commission. Both the National and State Human Rights Commission have registered a case on the basis of the complaint made in this matter. The commission may soon issue orders for investigation in this matter.
Allahabad High Court advocate and social activist Gajendra Singh Yadav had sent an online complaint to the National and State Human Rights Commission demanding a high-level inquiry in this matter. Both the commissions have sent information about the complaint of death in police custody to the complainant advocate Gajendra Singh Yadav after registering it.
Gajendra Singh Yadav has done PhD on police encounter and deaths in police custody. The National Human Rights Commission has registered the case of Aman Gautam with its case number 16983/IN/2024 and the Uttar Pradesh State Human Rights Commission has registered it on 4625/IN/2024.
The matter reached the Human Rights Commission
In the complaint of Advocate Gajendra Singh Yadav, it has been said that the police had arrested Aman Gautam, a resident of Vikas Nagar area of Lucknow, from inside Ambedkar Park. The video of Aman and his friend Sonu being arrested and taken away is also captured in CCTV. It is also seen in the CCTV that when the police were taking both of them away, Aman’s wife and other family members were walking behind crying.
The family members clearly allege that Aman died due to police beating. Advocate Gajendra Singh Yadav has also demanded the intervention of the National and State Human Rights Commission in this matter and a high-level investigation of the case and registration of a murder case against the guilty policemen and strict action.
Death of Dalit youth in police custody
It is worth noting that after the death of Aman Gautam of the Dalit community in police custody, there was a lot of uproar in Lucknow on Saturday night. According to the case, Lucknow Police had received information on Friday night that some people were gambling inside Ambedkar Park. The police raided the place and arrested some people including Aman Gautam. On Saturday, when his health deteriorated, Aman was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
In this case, while the family members are accusing the police of murder by beating, the police claim that Aman’s health suddenly deteriorated. The post-mortem report also revealed that he had a heart attack. It is expected that the Human Rights Commission may seek an answer from the Lucknow Police Commissionerate in this case. However, action has also been taken against some policemen in this famous case.
