Indigenous Warships To Indian Navy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate three important warships of the Indian Navy to the country at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai today (January 15). These warships INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vagsheer will play an important role in further strengthening India’s maritime security. The dedication of these warships is an important step to enhance the strategic strength of the Indian Navy. According to the information, they have been built with completely indigenous technology.
INS Surat is the fourth and last stealth guided-missile destroyer built under Project 15B of the Indian Navy. Its foundation was laid on 7 November 2019 and it was launched on 17 May 2022. This warship has advanced radar systems and stealth features that give it the ability to attack the enemy stealthily. It is 164 meters long with a displacement of 7,400 tonnes and is equipped with all types of weapons from missiles to torpedoes under the sea. With its ‘Combined Gas and Gas’ (COGAG) propulsion system, the ship can run at a speed of 30 knots (56 km/h).
Indian Navy’s first stealth frigate: INS Nilgiri
INS Nilgiri is the first stealth frigate under Project 17A of the Indian Navy which will give a new direction to maritime security. It was laid down on 28 December 2017 and launched on 28 September 2019. It weighs 6,670 tonnes and is 149 meters long. INS Nilgiri has been specially designed to reduce radar signature, so that it can evade enemy eyes. The ship is equipped with supersonic surface-to-surface and medium range surface-to-air missiles, which will enable it to deal with different threats located at sea.
INS Vagsheer: Sixth Scorpene-class submarine
INS Vagsheer is the sixth and last diesel-electric submarine built under the Indian Navy’s Scorpene-class Project 75. It is specially designed for covert operations so that it can carry out its mission without any noise in enemy areas. This 67-meter long and 1,550-tonne submarine is equipped with wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and advanced sonar systems. In the future, it is likely to add Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology which will further enhance its capability.
Special facilities for women officers
Special facilities have been created for women officers and sailors in these warships and submarines. This is an important step towards promoting equality in the Indian Navy. Also, this step encourages the participation of women in the Indian Navy. The inclusion of INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vagsheer will greatly increase the strategic strength of the Indian Navy. These warships and submarines will not only protect India’s maritime interests but will also strengthen the reputation of the Indian Navy at the global level. This excellent example of indigenous manufacturing will prove to be an important step towards self-reliance of the Indian defense sector.
