Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired the annual conference of Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) and held extensive deliberations on various aspects of India’s security system, according to a government statement. PM Modi described the conference as an excellent platform for sharing best practices and innovations in the field.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 60th conference of Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) from across the country at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Friday. The conference is being held in a closed-door session.

PM Modi, who arrived here on Friday night, joined the deliberations on Saturday. The conference was attended by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Tapan Kumar Deka, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood, along with other police chiefs from central and state forces.
Discussion on India’s Security System
PM Modi said in a post on X, “The first day of the DGP-IGP conference in Raipur saw extensive deliberations on various aspects of India’s security system. It is an excellent platform to share best practices and innovations in this field.” Inaugurating the three-day conference on Friday, Amit Shah said that the PM Modi-led government has provided a “permanent solution” to the problems of Naxalism, the Northeast, and Jammu and Kashmir, and that the number of Naxal-affected districts in the country has rapidly decreased.
All-out fight against organized crime
He urged police chiefs to wage an all-out war against drugs and organized crime, improve intelligence accuracy and inter-agency coordination, and use new criminal laws to modernize policing across the country. The Home Minister said that the time has come for state police forces to work closely with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), take strict action against drug gangs operating at the state, national, and international levels, and put their leaders behind bars.
Busting of a ‘White-Collar’ Terrorist Module
This important meeting comes weeks after agencies busted a ‘white-collar’ terrorist module. This module was involved in the car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which killed 15 people. According to an official statement, the conference, which will conclude with the Prime Minister’s address on Sunday, aims to review progress made in addressing key policing challenges and outline a visionary roadmap for building a ‘Safe India’ in line with the national vision of a ‘Developed India’.
Addressing the Country’s Internal Security Challenges
The DGP and IGP conference has emerged as a key forum for addressing the country’s internal security challenges, ranging from identifying problems and challenges to formulating strategies and policies. The statement said that this year, the conference, held under the theme ‘Developed India: Security Dimensions’, will feature detailed discussions on key security issues, including Left Wing Extremism, counter-terrorism, disaster management, women’s safety, and the use of forensic science and artificial intelligence (AI) in policing.
Around 600 officers are expected to participate in this conference. This conference provides a platform for senior police officers to freely discuss and deliberate on a wide range of issues related to national security, as well as various operational, infrastructural, and welfare-related problems faced by security personnel.
Annual Conference Held in New Delhi
This time, to incorporate new and youthful perspectives, heads of home departments from states and union territories, along with several DIG (Deputy Inspector General) and SP (Superintendent of Police) level officers, will also participate. According to the statement, until 2013, this annual conference was held in New Delhi. After the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in 2014, it was decided to move this event, organized by the Home Ministry and the Intelligence Bureau, out of the national capital.
The conference has been held in Guwahati (Assam), Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh), Statue of Unity (Kevadia, Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi, Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Bhubaneswar (Odisha).
