Meaning of Milad-un-Nabi

Milad-un-Nabi means the birth of the Prophet and is also called Maulid in many places, which means giving birth. This day is an occasion to remember the teachings of the Prophet and the ideals of his life. Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca around 570 AD. He is considered the founder and last prophet of Islam. He became an orphan at the age of six and was raised by his grandfather and uncle. At the age of 40, he received the first message of Allah from the angel Jibreel Alaihissalam in the Hira cave in Mecca. This message later became a part of the Quran. The Prophet spent his entire life spreading the message of humanity.

In India and other countries

In countries like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, processions are taken out, religious meetings are held and sweets are distributed from house to house. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not celebrate it because there is a tradition of Wahhabism and Salafism, which does not consider events like birthdays appropriate.

Message of Barawafat

Milad-un-Nabi is not a celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, but this day reminds us of his simple lifestyle, compassion, brotherhood and message of monotheism. This festival is a symbol of advancing the teachings of humanity and equality.

What is called Barawafat?

Barawafat is also called Eid e Milad or Miladunnabi. It is a very important festival of Islam. This day is special because on this day Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sahib was born and on this day he also passed away. People of the Muslim community celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and devotion. Hazrat Mohammad Sahib is considered Rahmatul-lil-Alameen i.e. mercy for the whole world. He gave the message of truth, honesty and brotherhood to humanity. It is said that before his death, Mohammed Sahib was ill for twelve days and that is why this festival is called Baravafat. Bara means twelve and Wafat means death.
