Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a two-day visit to the United Kingdom. On this occasion, the PM met King Charles III at his summer residence Sandringham House on Thursday. During this meeting, the PM gave a special gift to the King. The PM presented a plant of Davidia Involucrata ‘Sonoma’ to His Majesty.
This plant is also known as Sonoma Dove Tree or Handkerchief Tree. This gift was inspired by PM Modi’s environmental initiative, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, this initiative encourages people to plant trees in honor of their mother.

The royal family officially confirmed this meeting through social media handle X, saying, this afternoon, the King welcomed the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at Sandringham House. During the time spent with him, His Majesty was gifted a plant by PM Modi, which is inspired by the environmental initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” started by the Prime Minister, which encourages people to plant a tree in honor of their mother.

The Sonoma Dove Tree is known for its large white leaves. Its large leaves look like handkerchiefs. Which look like handkerchiefs or doves. This beautiful plant starts flowering only after 2-3 years of planting.
What matters were discussed
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Prime Minister Modi and King Charles III discussed bilateral relations and progress in India-England relations. Jaiswal wrote on X, they also discussed opportunities for cooperation in promoting Ayurveda, Yoga and Mission Life, so that its benefits can be extended to the UK as well.
Prior to meeting the King, PM Modi held extensive bilateral talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Also, the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed. On this occasion, the PM interacted with the players of Buckinghamshire Street Cricket Hubs. During this, PM Modi also told how cricket connects the two countries through a “shared passion”.
The PM said, “It is great to see that sports is promoting people-to-people relations between our countries. Along with this, the PM also presented a bat signed by the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team to the youth. Apart from cricket, the PM also praised the Premier League trophy on display and said that football is very popular among the youth of India and many UK-based football clubs are very popular in India.
