A 680-metre-long six-lane flyover will be constructed in North Delhi. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Friday that the Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a long six-lane flyover at Metcalfe House T-junction in North Delhi to reduce the area between Civil Lines and Signature Bridge.
The estimated cost of this flyover is Rs 183 crore. This flyover will start near the Civil Lines Trauma Center and DRDO office, where the Outer Ring Road and Hedgewar Road merge.
How will the flyover provide relief?
Parvesh Sahib Singh said, this flyover is a big step towards creating a modern, efficient and passenger-friendly road network in the capital. It will help reduce traffic at one of the busiest intersections in North Delhi. Our aim is to improve travel time, reduce stress on main roads and ensure better mobility across Delhi.
The department said in a statement, there is heavy traffic at Metcalfe House T-junction. Local residents, market associations and various public stakeholders have repeatedly raised the issue. PWD officials and Delhi Traffic Police conducted a joint inspection. After this, the matter was given further priority following the instructions of the PWD Minister. After this, a high-level review meeting was held on March 25 under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to find a solution to this problem. The site was also inspected.
Will get relief from jam
The department said, after evaluation of the site, it was agreed that a new flyover would be the best solution to solve the traffic bottleneck. This is expected to streamline traffic at Metcalfe House T-junction, reduce signal cycle time and waiting time. Increase the safety of vehicles and pedestrians, improve access to ITO and surrounding areas, help in emergency movement to hospitals like Civil Lines Trauma Center.
Footpath will be constructed
The department said, it will also facilitate better traffic for the residents of Civil Lines and surrounding areas. It will also streamline inter-state movement towards Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Officials said the project will include the construction of back-to-back U-turns and footpaths under the flyover.
