Punjab Building Collapse: A major accident has happened in Mohali, Punjab on Saturday (21 December) evening. A three-storey building collapsed in Sohana area of Mohali, causing panic in the area. As soon as the information about the accident was received, police and administrative officials reached the spot and relief and rescue work was started. According to the information received, so far the bodies of two people have been recovered from the debris, one of whom is a woman, while many people are feared to be buried. At present the rescue operation is going on.
It is being told that the excavation of the basement of another building located near the building was going on, due to which the foundation of this building weakened and it collapsed. A gym was running in the collapsed building and many people were present there at the time of the incident. As soon as the information about the accident was received, Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav and Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
Debris is being removed with the help of JCB machines in the rescue work and Indian Army personnel are also engaged along with NDRF teams. Rescue operations are also being carried out by the police administration. The administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident and has assured strict action against the culprits. In this case, a case of culpable homicide under section 105 of the BNS has been registered against the owners of the Mohali building, Parvinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh.
CM expressed grief
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed grief over this accident. He said, “Sad news has been received about the accident of a multi-storey building near Sohana in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali). The entire administration and other rescue teams are deployed on the spot. I am in constant touch with the administration. We pray that there is no loss of life or property, action will also be taken against the culprits. People are appealed to cooperate with the administration.”
