Punjab: Despite the government’s crackdown on stubble burning, the total number of FIRs has reached 743. The AQI in several Punjab cities is critical due to stubble burning.

Stubble burning in Punjab remains unchecked. Despite the government’s strict measures and enforcement, cases of stubble burning continue to rise. Sunday saw the highest number of stubble burning cases this season. With 122 new cases reported on this day, the total number of stubble burning cases in Punjab this season has reached 743.

The government is also continuing to take action against farmers who burn stubble. Fines totaling ₹16.8 lakh have been imposed on farmers who burn stubble. FIRs have been filed in 266 cases, and red entries have been made in the revenue records of farmers’ land in 296 cases.

Punjab’s Tarn Taran district leads the way
Tarn Taran district in Punjab has reported 224 cases so far, leading the district in stubble burning. Amritsar, followed by Amritsar, has reported a total of 154 cases. With the rice harvesting picking up pace in the coming days, the number of cases is expected to rise further. A total of 328 cases of stubble burning have been reported in Punjab in the last six days alone.

AQI rising due to stubble burning
The AQI of many cities in Punjab has increased due to the continuous burning of stubble. On Sunday, Jalandhar recorded an AQI of 439, Bathinda 321, Ludhiana 260, Amritsar 257, Patiala 195, and Mandi Gobindgarh 153.

Stubble burning also responsible for Delhi’s toxic air!
The AQI of the capital Delhi has also reached a critical level, exceeding 400 in many places. Many groups blame stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana for this, but farmers’ organizations say that Delhi’s pollution was already high even before farmers started harvesting their crops. However, as crops are being harvested, cases of stubble burning are increasing in states like Punjab and Haryana.
