Punjab Election 2024: Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab announced the names of candidates for Amritsar Municipal Corporation elections on Wednesday. The party has released the first list of 784 candidates. It also includes candidates from Patiala and Ludhiana Municipal Corporations. AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora and working president Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi announced the names of the candidates. The party had received a total of five thousand applications for the ticket, out of which these candidates have been fielded.
Aman Arora told the media that there are 94 candidates for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, 56 for Patiala Municipal Corporation and 74 for Amritsar Municipal Corporation. The party has finalized the names of candidates for 784 out of a total of 977 wards and the remaining candidates will also be announced soon. Punjab government cabinet minister Taranpreet Singh Saundh has said that the municipal elections will be conducted as per the guidelines issued by the High Court.

He claimed a big victory for AAP and said that 95 out of 95 wards of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Mann by winning the seats. Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary held a meeting recently to review the security arrangements for the upcoming municipal elections. Home Secretary Gurkirat Kripal Singh, Special Director General of Police Arpit Shukla and State Election Commission Secretary Jagjit Singh were present in the meeting.
Elections will be held for five municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils/nagar panchayats in Punjab and by-elections will be held for 43 wards of municipal councils as well as six wards of other municipal corporations. Elections for five municipal corporations Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Phagwara and 44 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Punjab will be held on December 21.
20,486 policemen will be deployed
There will be a total of 1,609 polling stations and 3,717 polling booths in the municipal elections, out of which 344 have been declared hypersensitive and 665 sensitive. Adequate police force will be deployed at all polling stations and booths as per security norms. A total of 20,486 policemen will be deployed during the elections.
