Punjab: Government declared the state as disaster-hit state, so far 30 people have died and 3.55 lakh people in 1,400 villages have been affected across the state

Chandigarh: Continuous rain and floods have caused heavy destruction in Punjab. Torrential rains have flooded all 23 districts of the state. Due to this, the situation has worsened a lot. Due to this, the Punjab government has declared the entire state as a disaster-affected state. Along with this, all educational institutions in Punjab have been closed till September 7 due to floods. So far 30 people have died in incidents caused by floods and rain.

According to the information, 1400 villages in 23 districts of Punjab are in the grip of floods. Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha has declared all 23 districts of the state as flood-affected. He has authorized the District Commissioners to issue all necessary orders under Section 34 of the Act in case of a disaster, giving them the right to act independently and be prepared for emergencies.

All schools will remain closed till September 7

The Punjab government on Wednesday announced the closure of all schools, colleges and universities till September 7 in view of the current flood situation in the state. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains made the announcement in this regard. Bains said, “Everyone is requested to strictly follow the guidelines of the local administration. Earlier, the government had declared holidays in all schools and colleges till September 3.

Rain also occurred in Punjab on Wednesday

Heavy rain also occurred in Punjab on Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, rain was recorded in many areas of both the states during the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Among the areas of Punjab that received rain, Amritsar received 27.6 mm, Ludhiana 29.8 mm, Patiala 9.2 mm, Pathankot 41.2 mm, Gurdaspur 94.7 mm and Mohali 55.5 mm of rain was recorded.

Flood warning in these villages

The Rupnagar district administration on Wednesday asked the locals living near the Sutlej river to remain alert as a large amount of water has been released from the dam after heavy rains in the catchment area of ​​​​Bhakra Dam in Himachal Pradesh. At 6 am, the water level of Bhakra Dam was 1,677.84 feet, while its maximum capacity is 1,680 feet. 86,822 cusecs of water reached the dam while 65,042 cusecs was released. Flood warning has been issued in Harsa Bela, Bela Ramgarh, Bela Dhyani Upper, Bela Dhyani Lower, Sensowal, Elgara, Bela Shiv Singh, Bhalan, Bhanam, Singhpura, Palasi, Taraf Mazara and Mazari villages.
