Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, has deported Amritpal Singh, a notorious criminal involved in serious cases like drug trafficking and murder, from Austria to India. He arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at 7 am on Friday and was taken into custody by Batala Police.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav posted on his X handle that after tireless efforts made by Punjab Police in coordination with central agencies, Amritpal Singh resident of village Bhoma police station Ghumman, convicted in many heinous criminal cases, has been successfully deported from Austria to India.
Involved in many serious crimes
It is worth noting that the convict Amritpal Singh is a fugitive who was living illegally in Austria. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the deported accused is involved in many heinous crimes including murder, attempt to murder, narcotics-related crimes and cases related to Arms Act. Deporting him is an important step towards providing justice to the victims.
Punjab Police praised
The DGP appreciated the tireless efforts of the entire team of Batala Police led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Suhail Qasim Mir and the Internal Security Wing of Punjab Police for bringing back fugitive Amritpal Singh to India.
Declared fugitive in several cases
Giving further information in this regard, SSP Batala Suhail Qasim Mir said that accused Amritpal Singh, who was declared a fugitive in several cases, fled to Austria via Dubai and Serbia in 2022, and was evading arrest since then. He further said that he had also applied for political asylum there. The SSP said that after persistent efforts and cooperation with international authorities, Punjab Police has brought him back to India to ensure justice.
