Punjab: Rape case registered against AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanamajra, MLA who has been absconding for three days issued a video message denying the allegations.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Sanaur, Punjab, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra is still absconding. Efforts to arrest him in the rape case registered against him have intensified. He has been absconding for three-four days and is out of police custody.

A case of rape, fraud and threatening a woman has been registered against Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, after which there has been a stir in the politics of the state.

Arrest efforts and court proceedings

Police sources said that the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) ​​has been deployed to search for the MLA. Pathanmajra had applied for anticipatory bail in the court through his lawyer Simranjit Singh Saggu on Thursday (September 4). The hearing took place on Friday (September 5) but the court fixed the next date as September 8.

He escaped from police custody three days ago. According to the police, during a raid in Dabri village of Haryana’s Karnal district, his supporters pelted stones and fired, due to which the situation worsened and the MLA absconded.

Video message and clarification on allegations

After absconding, the MLA released a video from an undisclosed location on Wednesday. He claimed that the police have wrongly accused him of being involved in the firing. Pathanmajra said that there was a conspiracy to kill him in a fake encounter, so he fled.

Earlier, on Tuesday (September 2), he came on Facebook Live. During this, he raised sharp questions on the Punjab government and the Delhi-based AAP leadership and alleged that the real control of the party is not in the hands of Punjabis.

Woman’s complaint and basis of FIR

An FIR was registered at Civil Lines Police Station, Patiala on September 1. The complainant, who is a resident of Zirakpur, alleged that the MLA had relations by claiming himself to be a divorcee. Later it was found that he was married even before getting married in 2021.

The woman has made serious allegations of continuous sexual exploitation, intimidation and sending obscene material. After these allegations surfaced, questions have started being raised on the role of the MLA in political and social circles. At the same time, police and special teams are continuously conducting raids to arrest him.
