Punjab’s Amritsar Police killed notorious gangster Harjinder Singh alias Harry in an encounter late Wednesday night. Harry was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in critical condition, where he died during treatment. Police said one of his accomplices, identified as Sunny and a resident of Attari, escaped from the scene. The deceased, Harjinder Singh alias Harry, was about 32 years old and had five criminal cases registered against him in various police stations, including one in Pathankot.
Investigations revealed that Harry had been released from jail on bail on November 7th. According to police, whenever Harjinder Singh alias Harry was released from jail, he immediately reconnected with his old gang members and criminal contacts. All his past location details, call records, and contact points are being thoroughly investigated. According to police officials, technology is being misused extensively in today’s fast-moving crime scene.
He was carrying out anti-national activities.
Just as drugs and weapons are smuggled into India from Pakistan via drones, this accused was also carrying out anti-national activities with the help of his network. Police stated that the entire planning was done secretly using virtual numbers, fake profiles, and social media platforms. The investigation also revealed that the accused, Harjinder Singh alias Harry, a resident of Judge Nagar Mohkampura, had been jailed in several cases.
What did the Amritsar Police Commissioner say?
Detailing the incident, Amritsar Police Commissioner GPS Bhullar stated that late Wednesday evening, the Anti-Gangster Operations Cell received information that Harjinder Singh alias Harry, recently released from jail, and his accomplice were planning to murder a prominent figure. Upon receiving the information, the police swung into action. Based on intelligence input, the police attempted to stop the two criminals. Upon seeing the police, the criminals opened fire.
Harry killed in encounter
The police retaliated with gunfire, seriously injuring Harry. Meanwhile, Harry’s companion managed to escape from the scene. Police immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he had already died by then. Investigations have revealed that Harry was in contact with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, and gangsters based abroad. He was carrying out anti-national activities under their guidance.
He has cases registered against him in Pathankot and Amritsar. Police said that his accomplice, Sunny, a pillion rider from Attari, fled the scene. Police teams have been deployed to apprehend him. These men used to import weapons consignments from Pakistan via drones. Police said that two pistols were also recovered from them.
