Jodhpur: On Friday (February 16) night, anti-social elements stole the idol of Mata from the ancient Chamunda Mata temple located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This temple is said to be of the fourth century. After the theft, anti-social elements destroyed the temple. The theft was discovered when the priest and devotees reached the temple on Saturday morning (February 17). This information has been given to the police and archeology department. As soon as information about theft in the temple was received, FSL team, dog squad and drone team along with top police officials reached the spot.
There is anger among the people due to the incident of theft in the ancient Chamunda Mata temple. Heavy police presence is present at the spot. Karni Singh told that the devotees associated with the temple told that Gupta Navratri is going on right now. We reached here on Saptami. This temple comes under the Archaeological Department. We come to worship. He told that when we reached the temple this morning, we were surprised to see the condition here. There was no idol of Maa Chamunda in the temple.
People warned of violent movement
According to Karni Singh, there were materials lying at the spot to defile the temple premises. The plastic bottles were filled with defiling things. Apart from this, black cloth, pot and cigarette packets were found lying on the spot. Dirt was created in the temple premises. He claimed that this was done with the intention of spoiling the peaceful atmosphere of Jodhpur. Karni Singh said that we all demand from the police administration that the accused should be arrested within 24 hours, if this is not done then people of 36 Com including Rajput Mali will carry out violent agitation.
Police engaged in investigation
As soon as information was received about the theft of the idol of Maa Chamunda from the Mandore temple, Mandore ACP Piyush Kavia along with Mandore police station officer Vikram Singh and a heavy contingent of police reached the spot. Apart from this, FSL team and dog squad team also reached the spot to collect evidence from the spot. This ancient temple is situated on the hill of Mandore garden. The police team is searching in the lake built in the hilly area. However, the statue of Mother Chamunda has not been found yet. The police are not saying anything in this matter.

The history of this temple of Jodhpur is very old. This centuries old temple garden of Mata Chamunda is situated on the hills of Nagad Ali. This temple dates back to before the establishment of Jodhpur, when Mandore used to be the capital. It is being told that Mandore Pratihar which is today the capital of the kings of Parihar Rajput dynasty. This temple of Goddess Chamunda, the family deity of Pratiharas, was established in the fourth century. The statue of Mother Chamunda was installed in this temple. After settling the Jodhpur Fort in 1460, Rao Jodha took the idol of the Mata and installed it in the Chamunda Mata temple.
