Rajasthan: Bhilwara’s POCSO court sentenced two convicts to death for gangraping a minor and burning her in a coal furnace

The POCSO court of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, on Monday sentenced two convicts to death in the case of gangrape of a minor and burning her in a coal furnace. Giving this information, Special Public Prosecutor Mahavir Singh Kishnawat said that in this case, two convicts Kalu and Kanha, who gangraped and killed the minor, have been sentenced to death. He said that the way the minor was gangraped, beaten up and then burnt alive in the furnace, the court considered it ‘rarest of the rare’ and sentenced both the convicts Kalu and Kanha to death today.

The court had convicted both the accused on Saturday. The sentence was pronounced to both the convicts on Monday. The court had acquitted seven persons accused of destroying evidence in this case. These include three women and four men. Kishnawat said that an appeal will be filed in the High Court against their acquittal. The victim’s mother said that justice has been done and she is satisfied with the punishment given to the culprits.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot welcomed the decision.

He said, “At that time, our government took prompt action and arrested the accused.” Gehlot’s tweet on the culprits being punished Ashok Gehlot wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “At that time, the Additional Director General (Crime) was sent to the spot and the case was taken up under the ‘Case Officer Scheme’. The chargesheet was filed in this case within about a month. Today, within about 10 months, these culprits have been sentenced.” This incident, which took place in August last year, became a major political issue in Rajasthan and at that time the opposition party, Bharatiya Janata Party, targeted the then Congress government over crimes against women.

After raping, she was thrown into a coal furnace

Let us tell you that on August 2, a 14-year-old minor was allegedly gang-raped and thrown into a coal furnace in Kotri police station area. She had gone to graze goats in the area. Kotri now falls in the newly formed Shahpura district. The police had arrested the accused from Kalbelia community who lived near the kilns and were involved in making coal in the kilns. According to Kishnawat, after the gangrape, the accused thought the minor was dead and threw her in the kiln.

Citing the report of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), he said the girl was alive when she was thrown in the kiln as she died due to burning. There were a total of five kilns in a row at the spot and unusually, one of them was running without being completely shut down. This aroused suspicion among the locals as usually the kilns are completely shut down. People found the girl’s bracelet there, following which the bones were recovered.
