The Jaipur Zonal Team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided four locations in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Wednesday. The raid was conducted under the PMLA in connection with a money laundering case involving Mohammad Sadiq Khan and his associates. The ED initiated the investigation based on an FIR filed on January 3, 2022, at the Kotgate police station in Bikaner, which invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.
In addition, intelligence inputs indicated that Mohammad Sadiq, reportedly the Ameer of the Jamiat Ahle Hadith (JAH) in Bikaner, was involved in hawala transactions, illegal religious conversions, and suspicious activities. Sources also revealed that he was in contact with a banned terrorist organization and had provided financial assistance to some NGOs for radical activities.
What was discovered in the raid?
The investigation revealed that Mohammad Sadiq was the president of the Alfurqan Educational Trust, which also operated the Masjid-e-Aisha Trust. The investigation revealed significant cash deposits in nearly 20 bank accounts belonging to Sadiq and his trusts. Transactions worth crores of rupees were made without any clear source. Despite having no tangible income, he traveled several times over the past few years to countries like Bangladesh, Iran, Oman, Nepal, and Qatar, staying there for extended periods. Evidence of financial support to a Bangladesh-based NGO was found.
Digital evidence revealed activities involving the sharing of inflammatory and radical content on his social media accounts, such as videos of burning Israeli flags, which were used to garner sympathy and raise illegal funds.
Foreign Funding Revealed
The investigation and evidence so far have revealed that Sadiq Khan faces several serious charges, including hawala and foreign funding, illegal arms trafficking, misuse of religious institutions, forced conversions, and the spread of radical ideology. All these activities are considered serious threats to law and order and national security. Further investigations are currently underway in the case.
