Jaipur: Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Rajasthan is considering reviewing 14 Muslim castes in its OBC list. A minister of the Rajasthan government has given a statement in this regard after a recent decision of the Calcutta High Court on OBC reservation. Let us tell you that the Calcutta High Court has shown the way out of the list to 77 castes, mostly Muslims, included in the OBC list by the TMC government of West Bengal. However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she will not obey the order of the High Court and no caste will be out of the OBC list.
‘High level committee will be formed’
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot in the Bhajanlal government of the state has said that after the end of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, a high level committee will be formed to review the OBC quota of Muslim castes. Avinash Gehlot said, ‘OBC reservation of Muslim castes will be reviewed. Congress gave OBC reservation to Muslim castes at different times under the politics of appeasement. OBC castes were given reservation at different times during the Congress rule. Many of these castes are such that they are in both Hindu and Muslim religions.
‘Congress did politics of appeasement’
Gehlot said, ‘Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar had made a provision in the constitution that reservation cannot be given on the basis of religion. Congress had included 14 Muslim castes in OBC at different times between 1997 and 2013. Now the BJP government will get this decision reviewed. Serious consideration is being given to form a high level committee to review the reservation of Muslim castes. The committee will be formed after the code of conduct ends.’ Let us tell you that all the BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi are against giving reservation on the basis of religion.
