He said that the dates will be announced in the next 10 days and the election process will be completed within two months.

Where will the elections be held?

He informed that these elections will be held only in those panchayats and bodies whose 5-year term has been completed. Elections will not be held in those institutions whose term is left. Elections will be held in 11,000 gram panchayats and 125 urban bodies
The commissioner informed that based on the instructions of the High Court, it is mandatory to conduct elections every 5 years as per the constitutional provisions and keeping this responsibility in mind, the commission will conduct the elections with complete transparency. Gupta said that it will take about one to two months to update the voter list and complete other formalities related to it.

This time elections will be held in more than 11,000 gram panchayats and 125 urban bodies. The commission believes that the election process will be completed in a timely and fair manner so that the democratic rights of the people can be respected.

Madhukar Gupta spoke on one nation one election

While talking to reporters, Madhukar Gupta also put forth his views on the issue of “One State One Election”. He clarified that until the Parliament amends the Constitution, it is not possible to conduct elections of local bodies and panchayats simultaneously. The tenure of elected representatives can neither be extended nor reduced, so separate elections will be held under the current system.

Gupta said that this year elections will be held in those panchayats and bodies whose term has expired, while voting will be held in other places only when the time comes.
