Rajkot Gaming Zone: A court in Rajkot, Gujarat on Friday sent four officials to police custody till June 12 in connection with the fire incident at a game zone in the city. These officials were arrested in connection with the massive fire in the game zone in Rajkot city on May 25. 27 people died in this incident.

Rajkot Town Planning Officer (TPO) MD Sagathia, Assistant TPOs Mukesh Makwana and Gautam Joshi and former station officer of Kalwad Road Fire Station Rohit Vigora were produced in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate BP Thakur on Thursday. Requesting the remand of the officials, government lawyer Tushar Gokani told the court that Sagathia knew since 2023 that the game zone was illegal. It should be demolished according to the law, but he did not take any action.

The lawyer argued in the court

He said that Sagathia and his two junior officers should be in custody so that more information can be obtained about the causes of this incident. Tushar Gokani said that a fire broke out in the game zone due to welding sparks, in which 27 people died. He said that Rohit Vigora and his fire brigade team reached the spot after receiving information about the fire.

He drew the court’s attention to the fact that in September 2023, a small fire incident had occurred in the same game zone due to welding. At that time also, Rohit Vigora, as the fire station officer, had reached the spot and extinguished the fire. Tushar Gokani said that Rohit Vigora knew that the game zone was being operated without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department, but he did not take any action.
