All four candidates, including BJP national president JP Nadda, filed their nomination papers for Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State President CR Patil, MLAs, leaders and officials were present while filing nominations. With this, the unopposed victory of BJP candidates on all four seats is certain.
On Wednesday 14 February, BJP had announced the names of 4 candidates for Gujarat Rajya Sabha. These four candidates have filled their nomination forms. BJP President JP Nadda has been given ticket from Gujarat on all four seats. Patidar leader and famous industrialist of Surat Govind Dholakia has also been declared as Rajya Sabha candidate.
Four BJP candidates filed nomination
Today was the last day to file candidature for Rajya Sabha, when BJP National President came to fill his nomination form in a show of strength. Along with this, North Gujarat leader Mayank Nayak, Central Gujarat BJP leader and well-known doctor Jashwant Singh Parmar, Surat Patidar leader and well-known industrialist Govind Dholakia have also filed their candidature for Rajya Sabha.
BJP has not re-nominated sitting Rajya Sabha MPs Purushottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandaviya. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya can now contest Lok Sabha elections from Bhavnagar seat.
What is the equation behind the selection of Rajya Sabha candidates?
North Gujarat leader and OBC Morcha president Mayank Nayak will also become a Rajya Sabha MP and with this BJP has hit two birds with one stone. By electing Mayank Nayak as the Rajya Sabha candidate, on one hand the OBC community has been given importance, on the other hand the representation of North Gujarat has also been strengthened.
It is worth noting that BJP has been trying to strengthen North Gujarat for a long time and to win the OBC community in its favor, even before this, after the completion of Jugalji Thakor’s tenure in the Rajya Sabha elections, OBC community leader Babu Desai was elected from North Gujarat. The seat was given and now Mayank Nayak was selected.
Mayank Nayak has been in charge of BJP’s Mari Maati Mari Desh campaign. He was responsible from Mandal level to State level, he is considered the main face of BJP in Patan district. Therefore the party has a wide range of faces and grassroots level workers.
Like Mayank Nayak, BJP has also hit many birds with one stone by making Govind Dholakia a Rajya Sabha candidate. Govind Dholakia is a leading industrialist and leader of the Patidar community who is originally from Saurashtra and has been settled in Surat i.e. South Gujarat for years. At that time BJP had fielded Govind Dholakia by combining Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Along with this, Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Purushottam Rupala have been expelled from the Rajya Sabha. Then an attempt has been made to solve the Patidar equation by making Govind Dholakia a Rajya Sabha MP.
