Former Governor of Uttar Pradesh Ram Naik is one of the outspoken leaders of Indian politics. Naik was awarded the honor of Padma Bhushan. In his long social and political career, he gave priority to the problems of the people. Due to his working style, Ram Naik has remained in the minds of people despite being away from active politics.
After being in active politics for almost four decades, he took oath as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2014. He remained on this post till 2019. However, after this he also announced to return to active politics.
Ram Naik’s education
Former Governor Ram Naik was born on 16 April 1934 in Sangli, Maharashtra. His early education was in Atpadi village of the district. After this, in 1954, he took B.Com degree from Commerce College, Pune. He did his Masters in LLB from Kishanchand Chellaram Degree College in Mumbai in 1958. After this, he started working as Upper Division Clerk in the Office of the Accountant General. Later he was promoted and by 1969 he reached the post of Company Secretary and Management Consultant.

Ram Naik was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak (RSS) since childhood. He started his political career with Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1964. However, in 1978, he was elected MLA from Borivali and reached Maharashtra Assembly for three consecutive times. After this, he held the post of Mumbai President of BJP from 1980 to 1986. Then the party made him the vice president of Maharashtra.
In 1989, he contested the first Lok Sabha elections on BJP ticket and won. He also won in 1991 and 1999. After this his stature in the party increased. Ram Naik was the Oil and Natural Gas Minister in Atal Bihari’s government.
Actor Govinda lost the elections
However, in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Ram Naik was defeated by actor Govinda from Mumbai North seat. He regretted this defeat throughout his life, which he has also mentioned in his book. Nine years later, in 2013, he retired from the Lok Sabha elections. Later Ram Naik was made the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
