New Delhi: For the first time in the last eight years, the weather was the hottest on Republic Day on Sunday in the capital Delhi. This year on January 26, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.7 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees more than normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. Earlier on January 26, 2017, the maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 26.1 degrees Celsius. Let us tell you that in the last few years, there has been a lot of fluctuation in the temperature of Delhi on 26 January.
Why is it so hot?
Talking about the past years, the maximum long-term average (LPA) of this day since the year 1991 has been 22.1 degrees Celsius, but in recent years the temperature has been cold. In 2024, the temperature was recorded at 20.6 degrees Celsius, in 2023 at 17.3 degrees Celsius and in 2022 at 16.4 degrees Celsius. The IMD attributed the continuous above-normal maximum temperature in Delhi to clear skies and dry northwesterly winds.
Sunshine during the day
Skymet Vice President Mahesh Palawat said, “Despite rain and snowfall in some parts of northwest India due to the recent western disturbance, the maximum temperature in Delhi has not been affected relatively due to sunshine during the day.” However, night temperatures have dropped due to clear skies and northwesterly winds. On Sunday, Delhi’s minimum temperature was 7.2 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below normal. Earlier, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 9.8 degrees Celsius on Friday.
How will the weather be this week
At the same time, a new western disturbance is likely to affect this region from January 28, which will further increase the maximum and minimum temperatures. According to the IMD, by the end of this week, the minimum temperature is expected to be 9-11 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is expected to be 24-26 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, according to the Central Pollution Control Board, the 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was 216, which falls in the ‘poor’ category. On Saturday, the AQI was recorded at 174.
