Retired Lieutenant General D.S. Hooda’s car was hit by a Punjab Police jeep escorting a VIP convoy on the Zirakpur flyover on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway in Punjab’s Mohali district. The police jeep fled the scene. Following the incident, General Hooda shared his ordeal on the social media platform X and demanded action. An investigation has been launched by the Punjab Police administration.
The incident occurred last evening on the Zirakpur flyover while General Hooda was driving with his wife. General Hooda wrote that a Punjab Police jeep escorting a VIP convoy was speeding. Due to heavy traffic, our car was slowing down, causing a delay for the driver of the police jeep.
We deeply regret the distress and concern caused to you and your wife due to this unfortunate incident. Such behavior, if established, is completely unacceptable and contrary to the values of professionalism and public service that the Punjab Police stands for.

The angry police driver overtook from the left and deliberately hit our car from the right. He described the incident as a deliberate collision and demanded action from the Chief Minister and DGP. He said this negligence and arrogance damages the reputation of the uniform and the department.
Punjab DGP responds on social media
Following General Hooda’s tweet, the Punjab DGP also immediately responded on social media, stating that action is being taken. The DGP wrote, “We regret the inconvenience caused to General D.S. Hooda and his wife. Such behavior is unacceptable and against the values of the Punjab Police.” In this case, Special DGP Traffic A.S. Rai has been asked to identify the vehicles involved and the policemen deployed on them.
