According to a report by news agency AFP, separatist rebels in northern Mali say they have killed 84 fighters of the Russian mercenary group Wagner and 47 government soldiers in a battle near the Algerian border between July 25 and 27.
No one is confirming their losses
On the other hand, neither the Mali rebels nor Wagner have said how many of their soldiers have been killed in the clashes. However, in a statement on July 29, Wagner said that it had suffered heavy losses. Malian officials have also admitted heavy losses in the fighting without giving the number.
Russia said – support will continue
On the other hand, despite this heavy loss, Russia has again reiterated its commitment to support the Mali junta and has emphasized on ongoing military and socio-economic cooperation. Russia says that it will not back down from here.
Who are these rebels who are defeating Russia?
Actually, some organizations have opened a front against the government in Mali. The Tuareg rebel group and the Al-Qaeda-linked group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM) in the Sahel region are prominent among them. Russia had entered here to save the government, but now both these organizations seem to be overpowering the Russian soldiers. Both the organizations have attacked Russian soldiers several times and have also taken responsibility for it. It is being told that these 131 soldiers have also been killed by these two rebel organizations.
