Kiev: Russia launched massive missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s power grid on Thursday night. Ukrainian officials said on Friday that these attacks came hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that talks with the US to end the three-year-long war with Russia would be held next week. Ukraine’s Power Minister Herman Halushenko wrote on Facebook wall, “Ukraine has been attacked by missiles and drones on a large scale.” The authority said that at least 10 people, including a child, were injured in these attacks.
Power infrastructure continuously targeted
Halushenko further said, “Russia is trying to harm the common people by attacking power and gas production facilities. It is not abandoning its goal of depriving us of electricity and gas, and is causing the most harm to ordinary citizens.” Let us tell you that during the war, Russia has continuously targeted Ukraine’s power infrastructure. The attacks have also reduced Ukraine’s power generation capacity and affected water lines as well as heating systems needed during the winter season. Ukrainian officials have accused Russia of “using winter as a weapon” in an effort to demoralize citizens.
Kremlin (Russia’s President’s Office) spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that the power grid is a legitimate target in war, as it is “linked to Ukraine’s military industrial complex and weapons production.”
