Russia Ukraine War: Regarding the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, it has been said from the US that Russia is using North Korean weapons in the war. Now a new Pentagon report has also come out regarding this. This report says that Russia is using North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine. The report, citing analysis of the debris, confirms the allegations that Pyongyang is sending weapons to Moscow.
Russia attacked with North Korean missiles
The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency report has confirmed using open-source imagery that the debris found in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine in January this year is of a short-range ballistic missile made in North Korea. In a statement released with the report, the DIA said, “Analysis confirms that Russia has used ballistic missiles made in North Korea in the war against Ukraine.” The report also said that debris of North Korean missiles has been found across Ukraine.
North Korea denies the allegations
South Korea had already accused Pyongyang of sending thousands of containers of weapons to Russia, which is a violation of UN sanctions on both countries. South Korea’s allegation was denied by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s sister. Kim Yo Jong had described South Korea’s claim as “absurd”. Kim Yo Jong had said that Pyongyang “has no intention of exporting its military technological capabilities to any country.”
What do experts say
No matter what Kim Yo Jong said, experts have a different opinion. Experts say that the recent test spree, in which North Korea has repeatedly fired rockets, cruise and ballistic missiles, may be of weapons used on the battlefields in Ukraine.
Evidence has been found
Hong Min, a senior analyst at the Korea Institute for National Unification in Seoul, said the pictures included in the report have been released by North Korea. They show Kim visiting military factories to inspect the country’s strategic missiles and launch vehicles in August last year. “They provide clear evidence that these were used in the attack on Ukraine and clearly show that Kim Yo Jong’s recent statement denying the transfer of Russian weapons is a blatant lie,” Hong told AFP.
‘Not a surprise’
Hong Min said North Korea’s test campaign, which involved demonstrating its weapons’ mass production and operational capabilities, “appears to be part of efforts to supply additional weapons to Russia ahead of President (Vladimir) Putin’s visit to North Korea.” Former CIA analyst Soo Kim told AFP that Russia’s use of North Korean missiles was not a surprise.
