Russia Ukraine War: Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that if Ukraine is given long-range weapons like the Tomahawk cruise missile to attack deep inside Russia, Russia’s response will be “strong and shocking.” Putin made this statement in a televised address at the 17th Congress of the Russian Geographical Society.
“A self-respecting country cannot bow to pressure”
Vladimir Putin said, “No self-respecting country can bow to external pressure, especially not a country like Russia.” He recalled that most US sanctions on Russia were imposed during President Donald Trump’s first term as president. Putin said that Trump had proposed a meeting in Budapest during a phone conversation on October 16th. “We believe it has been postponed, not canceled.”
“An attempt to pressure Russia”
Putin addressed several issues, including the cancellation of the Budapest talks and the imposition of new sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies. Putin also stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to acquire long-range weapons to launch attacks deep into Russian territory. He described the new sanctions on Russian oil companies as another attempt to exert pressure.
“Dialogue is better than war”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, hinting at the two sides maintaining behind-the-scenes contacts, said, “We believe dialogue is better than any conflict or war.” He warned that US sanctions on Russian crude oil would adversely affect American consumers, who would bear the brunt of skyrocketing global oil prices.
Russia Takes Major Step
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Russia recently caused a stir globally by conducting military exercises involving its strategic nuclear forces. During the exercises, Russia tested intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and cruise missiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally supervised the exercises.
