More than two years have passed since the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Russia is continuously attacking Ukraine. Meanwhile, 17 people have died in the latest attack by Russia. A missile fired by Russia fell on an eight-storey building in Chernihiv, northern Ukraine, killing people. Ukraine’s emergency service reported that at least 61 people, including three children, were injured in the attack. Chernihiv is located about 150 kilometers north of Ukraine’s capital Kiev, near the border with Russia and Belarus and has a population of about 2.5 million.
Ukraine is not getting help
Russia continues to make advances in Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Due to Western countries not providing additional military equipment to Ukraine, its position in the war against Russia is weakening. However, during the winter months, Russia was unable to make any progress on the war front. Meanwhile, Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala said his government had arranged for 500,000 artillery shells to be delivered to Ukraine from countries outside the EU. The arms are to be supplied in June.
What does the President of Ukraine want?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested Western countries to provide more air defense systems to his country. He said of the Chernihiv attack that “if Ukraine had received adequate air defense equipment and the world had been determined to counter Russian terrorism, this would not have happened.” Zelensky said in an interview broadcast earlier this week. He told ‘PBS’ that Ukraine has run out of air defense missiles to defend against missile and drone attacks. Recently, Russia destroyed one of Ukraine’s largest power plants in an attack.
Russia is gaining ground
According to the ‘Institute for the Study of War’, there is a rapid shortage of military equipment in Ukraine. Recently an ISW report came out in which it was said that due to the delay in the provision of US military aid to Ukraine, Russia is rapidly gaining ground. The report said that without American aid, Ukraine cannot last long on the battlefield. ISW said that what Ukraine needs most right now is air defense systems and artillery.
