Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was released from jail on September 23rd. Following his release, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav visited Azam Khan in Rampur on October 8th. Azam Khan and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav held a two-hour closed-door meeting in Rampur on Wednesday. This was the first meeting between Khan and Akhilesh in the 15 days since Khan’s release from jail. Speaking to the media, Azam Khan stated that it was true that he was the only surviving member of the Samajwadi Party’s founding family. He also described the current situation as an undeclared emergency.
Azam Khan, recalling his time in jail, said, “It’s true that I’m the only one alive among the founding members. This is the third episode of my life. First, I spent 27 months in jail, and then 23 months in jail. These 27 and 23 months are so heavy that I don’t remember any of the wounds or memories of the Emergency. However, I do remember all the months spent in jail.”
Azam said that during the Emergency, humanity was alive, but now even brutality is gone. This is the difference between that Emergency and this undeclared Emergency.
I’m a thief, charges of robbery have been imposed – Azam
Azam Khan also raised questions about the case filed against him. He said, “Now you can imagine the level of those who filed and executed these cases. I was accused of theft, but I was convicted of robbery. In cases where charges of theft should have been imposed, charges of robbery have been imposed.”
What after the meeting? What did Akhilesh say?
After meeting Azam, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Azam Khan is a very old leader. His deep influence has always been with us. This is a big fight, and we will all fight it together. I was unable to meet Azam Khan when he was released from jail, so I came to meet him. Now we will continue to meet.”
More than 100 cases are registered against Azam Khan.
Former minister Azam Khan has 104 cases registered against him. 93 cases are registered against him in Rampur. Verdicts have been given in 12 of these cases. He has been convicted in some cases and acquitted in others. Azam said that he will get justice from the court. If not today, then tomorrow, verdicts will be given in all these cases.
