Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Sambhal, Ziaur Rahman Barq, has sparked a new controversy in political circles. Barq stated that he does not sing Vande Mataram because some of its lyrics are against his religion. He stated clearly that neither his grandfather sang the song, nor does he, and that this does not raise any questions about his patriotism.

The SP MP stated, “Our elders made sacrifices for the country’s independence, and no one can question our patriotism.” He clarified that he considers Jana Gana Mana the national anthem, respects it, and sings it while standing. However, Vande Mataram is the national song, and no one can force us to sing it. According to him, the song contains words that go against religion, because “we worship one Allah and cannot prostrate to anyone else.”

The Constitution and the Supreme Court have also given freedom – Ziaur Rahman Barq
SP MP Barq cited the Constitution and the Supreme Court in his statement. He said, “It is our constitutional right to make decisions according to our religious beliefs.” Referring to a 1986 Supreme Court case, he said that no one can be forced to sing ‘Vande Mataram.’ He reiterated, “We love the land of this country, are loyal to it, but we worship only Allah.”

During the conversation, Ziaur Rahman Barq also commented on the Bihar Assembly elections. He said that he hopes the Grand Alliance will form the government this time, leading to development and a reduction in the crime rate. He said, “If the parties in power work honestly, Bihar can be counted among the most progressive states in the country.”
