Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the Election Commission of working under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the previous by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav, who arrived at his uncle’s house with his family to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, told reporters that there has always been a concern about whether the Election Commission will do justice or not.
He alleged that in some by-elections, including Kundarki, Meerapur and especially Ayodhya, ‘vote theft was a small thing, the Election Commission committed robbery and hijacking of votes on the instructions of the BJP.
Facility to vote more than once
Akhilesh Yadav claimed that during these elections, the administration had already decided which officers would be on duty, who would get how many votes, and even people were given the facility to vote more than once. He alleged that we had videos in which people were casting six votes each. A person was caught voting outside his constituency and ministers were staying at the polling stations.
Accusation of deletion of 18,000 votes
The SP chief also reminded that in the last elections, his party had accused the Election Commission of deleting 18,000 votes of the SP without any explanation even though those voters had voted earlier. He said that the Commission did not take any action against the responsible officials, which compromised the fairness of the elections.
Allegation of rigging in UP by-elections
Akhilesh Yadav claimed that there has always been a concern about the Election Commission whether it will do justice or not. And if there has ever been a most exemplary election, on which we should have a full debate, then it is the UP by-election. Vote theft is a very small thing. With the support of the BJP, the Election Commission committed dacoity or kidnapped votes.
