Sheikh Shahjahan, the mastermind of the Sandeshkhali incident, will be arrested within the next seven days. TMC leader and party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh posted on his X handle on Monday. Kunal Ghosh wrote, ‘Abhishek was right about the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan. The matter was stuck in legal trouble in the court. The opposition was doing politics. Shahjahan will be arrested within seven days.”
Let us tell you that Sheikh Shahjahan is absconding after the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials on January 5. ED’s authority to search his premises in the ration scam was invoked. During that time he was attacked.
Meanwhile, today the Calcutta High Court has told that the state police can arrest Shahjahan. There is no ‘stay’ of the court in the investigation of the state police. The court has ordered to issue public information in this regard.
Abhishek said – TMC is not defending
At a program in Maheshtala on Sunday, Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee had said, “No one should have the misconception that Trinamool is protecting Sheikh Shahjahan. If anyone is defending, he is defending the judiciary. Lift the judicial stay and if you can’t do that, ask the same question. The court has already told that there is no stay in the Sandeshkhali case. In fact, the court has also ordered to include Shahjahan in this case.
In this context, Union Minister of State Subhash Sarkar said, “This means that the words of Abhishek Banerjee have been proved completely wrong.” Meanwhile, CPM’s Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya said, “There is no legal hurdle.” In fact, he had kept Shahjahan under police protection in his shelter. Now people are saying these things as a result of the protests.
Sandeshkhali, a village in North 24 Parganas, has become a major issue ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Many women have accused Shahjahan and his associates Shibprasad Hazara and Uttam Sardar of land grabbing and sexual harassment and have also protested against them.
If government does not take steps, we will intervene: Governor
On the other hand, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has said that he will intervene if the government does not take action. The Governor said that from what I have understood from the newspapers, more than 800 petitions have been received. The process has started, women have come forward, they have started vocally protesting. Now there will be change.
Bose said, “Generals cannot fight, they make others fight. The job of the Governor is to see that the elected government acts in accordance with the law. If this is not done, the Governor will intervene.”
