Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena are ready to contest the municipal elections together in at least four districts of Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut gave this information on Friday. He further said that discussions are going on to form an alliance with MNS.

PTI quoted Raut as saying, “Thackeray brothers (Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) will contest and win the municipal elections together in Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Kalyan-Dombivali.” He said, “The strength of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray is the strength of unity of Marathi speakers. Now no force can break the iron fist of ‘Marathi Manush’.”

Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray had united over the Marathi language in Maharashtra and announced a united movement. After the announcement of both, the Maharashtra government had to withdraw the compulsory Hindi from primary to fifth class. After that Uddhav and Raj Thackeray held a joint meeting.

Raj had visited Matoshree after 13 years, congratulated Uddhav

Earlier on July 27, MNS chief Raj Thackeray had visited Matoshree in Bandra after a gap of 13 years and wished Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on his 65th birthday.

Raj Thackeray reached Matoshree from his residence Shivtirtha in Dadar and presented a bouquet of red roses. Earlier, Raj Thackeray had come to this residence in 2012 at the time of Balasaheb Thackeray’s death. Accompanied by MNS leaders Bala Nandgaonkar and Nitin Sardesai, Raj was welcomed by Uddhav and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut.

BJP takes a jibe at Raj-Uddhav coming together

However, Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Girish Mahajan accused the Shiv Sena (UBT) of remembering Marathi-speakers only during election season. He said last year’s assembly results showed that Marathi voters supported the BJP in a big way and were not swayed by attempts to mislead them. Besides, state BJP MLA Pravin Darekar wondered if it was true or just Raut’s “speculation”.
