Shivraj Patil Chakurkar served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and held various Union Ministerial positions. He was undergoing treatment at home due to a prolonged illness.

Former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil Chakurkar has passed away at the age of 91. He breathed his last at his residence after a prolonged illness. He held several senior positions in the central government and was elected seven times as an MP from the Latur Lok Sabha constituency. The party has expressed grief over his passing.

Shivraj Patil was approximately 91 years old and had been ill for a long time. He breathed his last at around 6:30 am at his home in Devagar, Latur. He was undergoing treatment at home due to his illness. Shivraj Patil Chakurkar was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and held several Union Ministerial positions.

Shivraj Patil was an influential Congress leader from Chakur in Latur, having won the Latur Lok Sabha constituency seven times. Despite losing the Lok Sabha seat in 2004, he held the position of Home Minister from the Rajya Sabha and other central government positions. The Congress party and all its workers have expressed grief over his passing and extended their condolences to his family.

Patil was Home Minister at the time of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

In his political career, Shivraj Patil held several prestigious positions for the country. Hailing from Maharashtra, Chakurkar served as a Member of Parliament from Latur in Marathwada. He served as an MLA from the Latur Rural constituency from 1973 to 1980. After 1980, he won elections from the Latur parliamentary constituency several times and reached the Lok Sabha. At the time of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, Shivraj Patil was the country’s Home Minister.

Patil resigned from his post after facing significant criticism for his role in the security lapses during the Mumbai terror attacks. He acknowledged his failure to prevent the Mumbai attacks and took moral responsibility.
