Senthil Balaji Resigned as a Minister: Eight months after his arrest in a money laundering case, V Senthil Balaji resigned as a minister in the Tamil Nadu cabinet on Monday. Balaji sent his resignation to the Governor. According to the Hindustan Times report, a government official, on the condition of anonymity, said, “His resignation will be sent to the Governor.”

This development comes two days before the Madras High Court is to hear Balaji’s bail plea on February 14. Senthil Balaji had first gone to a trial court in the city for bail, where his plea was rejected. Now he has approached the High Court. Currently, it is being heard by High Court Justice Anand Venkatesh, who had recently criticized his continuation in the DMK cabinet.

ED had arrested on 14 June 2023
ED had arrested Balaji on June 14, 2023 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) in an old case of 2014. When he was arrested, he was the Transport Minister in the AIADMK government. After his arrest, he was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain and later had heart surgery in a private hospital. He was discharged from the hospital on 17 July 2023. Since then he is lodged in Puzhal Central Jail.

When the Governor dismissed the CM, he came out in protest!
Chief Minister MK Stalin continued to support Balaji even after all this. Governor RN Ravi had dismissed him from the cabinet in June 2023, but the decision was postponed after a few hours. The ruling DMK had criticized this decision of the Governor. The party said that there is no need to disqualify him as he has not been found guilty.
