Mumbai: The controversy over Aurangzeb in Maharashtra politics is not calming down. The latest case is related to Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who has compared the BJP-led government in the state to the rule of Aurangzeb. Sanjay Raut on Friday described the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Maharashtra as worse than Aurangzeb. He also said that farmers are losing their lives because of this government.
‘It has been 400 years since Aurangzeb was buried’
Sanjay Raut has said that the people of Maharashtra should forget Mughal Aurangzeb and remember the new Aurangzeb because the BJP’s rule in Maharashtra is worse than Aurangzeb’s era. He claimed that farmers, unemployed people and women are committing suicide in Maharashtra. Raut said, ‘It has been 400 years since Aurangzeb was buried. Forget him. Are farmers in Maharashtra committing suicide because of Aurangzeb? They are doing this because of you (BJP).’ Raut questioned that if the Mughal ruler committed atrocities, then what is this government doing?
‘BJP’s tenure worse than Aurangzeb’
Raut said, “Farmers are committing suicide. BJP’s tenure is worse than Aurangzeb.” He was responding to a question on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ statement in which he had said that ‘everyone’ feels that the tomb of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar should be removed. He had said, ‘But it should be done within the legal framework because the previous Congress government had kept this site under the protection of ASI.’ Let us tell you that BJP leads the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, which also includes Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party.
