A campaign to build a new Babri Masjid in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district has gained rapid momentum. Since the laying of the foundation stone for the mosque on December 6th by suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir in the Renji Nagar area of Beldanga, approximately 175 kilometers from Kolkata, a large number of people have been flocking to the site to donate bricks and money.
Rs 3 Crore Donated in Two Days
According to sources, approximately three crore rupees have been collected in donations for the construction of the new Babri Masjid in just the last two days. In addition, around 10 lakh bricks have already been brought to the land near where the foundation stone was laid.
On Which Land Will the Mosque Be Built?
Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Babri Masjid on a plot of land measuring 3 kathas on December 6th. However, he has not yet clarified on which specific plot of land the new Babri Masjid will be built. A large plot of land is available next to the site where the foundation stone was laid. There is speculation that this land might be purchased in the future for the construction of the Babri Masjid; the answer will only become clear in the coming days.
“The Proposed Structure Will Be Built at Any Cost”
It is worth noting that this event in Murshidabad was scheduled for December 6th, the same day the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in 1992. The choice of this date for the event also drew sharp political reactions. Security was tightened not only in Renji Nagar but also in the nearby Beldanga area, which the administration effectively transformed into a high-security zone due to fears of increased crowds and rising tensions.
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir was suspended by the Trinamool Congress earlier this week on charges of engaging in ‘communal politics’. From the stage at the event, Kabir repeatedly stated that the proposed structure would be built at any cost. Addressing the people, he said, “I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Building a place of worship is a constitutional right. The Babri Masjid will definitely be built.”
