South Korea’s Joint Investigation Headquarters said on Monday (30 December) that an arrest warrant has been sought against President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of rebellion and misuse of power.
The President ignored the summons three times
The investigation team said that they summoned suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol three times, but he ignored all three summons. After which an arrest warrant has been sought against him. This investigation team includes officials from the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO), police and defense ministry.
Now the court will decide whether to issue an arrest warrant against President Yoon or not. However, this will be the first time in the history of South Korea that an attempt is being made to detain the President before the impeachment process is completed.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yol’s lawyer Yun Gap-gup told Yonhap News Agency, “COI is acting outside its authority, but Yoon will take formal steps for this.”
The President had implemented martial law on December 3
It is noteworthy that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yol had briefly announced martial law in the country on December 3 (Tuesday), which shocked the entire country. Due to this, the country had to face its biggest political crisis in decades.
The country’s National Assembly passed an impeachment motion against the President by a vote of 204-85. After which the President was suspended from his duties on December 14 (Saturday).
