Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabari has made an important announcement saying that India’s popular digital payment system UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is being launched in the country from February 12.

UPI in Sri Lanka:This move will not only make digital transactions between the two countries easier and safer, but will also boost global acceptance of India’s digital payment system.

 

UPI has brought revolutionary changes in India in the last few years. This system, which facilitates faster, less expensive and secure transactions, has sharply reduced the use of cash. Seeing its success, now many other countries are also showing interest in adopting UPI.

 

The launch of UPI in Sri Lanka will bring many benefits to both the countries. Sri Lankan citizens will be able to shop easily in India and Indian tourists will be able to make payments in Sri Lanka without any hassle. This is expected to boost tourism and trade. Besides, cross-border transactions between citizens of the two countries will also become easier.

Till now UPI has been launched in these countries

Singapore: UPI-PayNow link launched between India and Singapore in 2022.

Bhutan: BHIM-UPI Bhutan app launched between India and Bhutan in 2022.

Nepal: NIPL-Nepal Payments Gateway launched between India and Nepal in 2022.

United Arab Emirates (UAE): UPI-Direct link launched between India and UAE in 2023.

France: UPI-Paylib link launched between India and France in 2023.
