Colombo: The Sri Lankan Navy became a godsend for hundreds of Rohingyas when they were on the verge of drowning in the sea area near the northeastern coast. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the Sri Lankan army reached the spot for relief and rescue work. The Navy has rescued more than 100 Rohingyas, including 25 children from Myanmar, stranded in trouble on the northeastern coast. Local fishermen saw these people in the Vella Mullivaikkal area of Mullaitivu district on Thursday.
It was being speculated that these people were going to Australia or Indonesia. But suddenly their boat got stuck in the waves on the beach. The Navy spokesperson said on this, “We do not know yet how they got stuck in trouble in the sea and where they were going.” The Navy spokesperson said, “They were on a boat used for fishing.
40 women were included with children
According to the Sri Lankan Navy, there were a total of 102 people on the boat, including 25 children and 40 women. One of these women was also pregnant. The Navy said that they have been brought to Trincomalee, where further action will be taken. The Navy had similarly rescued more than 100 Rohingyas in Sri Lankan waters in December 2022.
