Odisha Police has expressed displeasure over the tattoos on the bodies of some of its Special Security Battalion (SSB) personnel and has asked them to remove the tattoos within 15 days. Police say that these tattoos easily attract attention while wearing uniform.
At the same time, they are seen as indecent and insulting.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) Bhubaneswar has issued an order. In his order, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all the concerned officials to prepare a list of those SSB jawans who have tattoos on their bodies. Actually, SSB jawans are deployed at important establishments like Chief Minister’s residence, Raj Bhavan, State Secretariat, Odisha Legislative Assembly and High Court. These jawans also provide security to VVIPs and dignitaries within Odisha.
The Deputy Commissioner said, ‘A good number of people of the unit are found having tattoos on their bodies, which spoil the image of the battalion as well as Odisha Police as these are offensive, indecent and derogatory in nature, so after careful consideration it was decided that from today visible tattoos are not allowed while wearing uniform.’
‘Avoid getting inked on face, neck and hand’
He said, ‘SSB officers have been instructed to ask the jawans who have tattoos on their body parts to remove the tattoos permanently within 15 days from the date of receipt of the order. The DCP warned that if the instructions are not followed, necessary departmental action will be initiated against the culprits. He has advised the SSB jawans to avoid getting inked on face, neck and hand to maintain the level of professionalism.
