Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) has been declared an ‘unlawful organization’ by the Government of India under UAPA for a period of 5 years. This information has come out in an order of the Home Ministry. Let us tell you that due to its involvement in many terrorist activities in the country and its links with other terrorist organizations, the Government of India has declared the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as an illegal association.
Regarding this, Home Minister Amit Shah said that strengthening Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of zero tolerance for terrorism, SIMI has been declared an ‘unlawful organization’ for 5 years under UAPA.
SIMI also went to Supreme Court last year
Let us tell you that last year also the Central Government had imposed a ban on SIMI, against which the Students Islamic Movement of India had approached the Supreme Court. However, the court had then refused to hear the petitions immediately against the ban imposed on SIMI. Then the Supreme Court had said that right now the hearing on Article 370 is starting in the Constitution Bench, when the hearing on it is over, all these will be considered.
“Wants to establish Islamic rule in India”
In July last year, the central government had told the apex court that SIMI’s objective of establishing Islamic rule in India cannot be allowed to be achieved. The government had said that members of the banned organization are still involved in disruptive activities, which could threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. In its counter affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the Center had said that SIMI members are in “constant touch” with their associates and masters based in other countries and their activities can disturb peace and communal harmony in India. The government had also said that the objective of SIMI is to spread Islam in India and gain support from students and youth for ‘Jihad’.
