The Delhi High Court asked the central government to clarify its stand on the petition of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. This matter is related to Rahul Gandhi. A petition was filed to decide on Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship. The bench of Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Judge Tushar Rao Gedela said this verbally.
In this case, the proxy lawyer appearing on behalf of the central government in the High Court was asked to get instructions from the government. In this case, the court has clearly said that it will pass any order in this matter only after taking the help of the government lawyer.
Time sought for appointment of new lawyer
The court said that initially it could have issued notice on the petition, but now time has been sought from the government in the appointment of a new lawyer in this case. He said that the proxy lawyer of the Center told the court that the lawyer representing the government earlier in the case has been designated as a senior advocate, so he has sought some time to appoint a new lawyer in the case.
When will the next hearing be held?
According to the petition, on August 6, 2019, Subramanian Swamy wrote a letter to the ministry stating that he (Gandhi) is a British citizen and is entitled to hold a passport there. Subramanian Swamy has said that he has sent several representations to the ministry to inquire about the status of his complaint. Even after so much time has passed, no action has been taken in this matter nor have we received any information about it. The next hearing in this case will be held on January 13, 2025.
