The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to suspended IAS officers Ranu Sahu, Saumya Chaurasia and businessman Suryakant Tiwari in the Chhattisgarh coal scam case. The Supreme Court said that the investigation in this case will take a lot of time, so keeping in mind the time-consuming process, it considers it appropriate to release the petitioners on interim bail.
The Supreme Court said that if any witness is found involved in influencing, tampering with evidence or obstructing the investigation, then the state government can approach the court to cancel the interim bail and in that case the interim bail will be cancelled. The Supreme Court bench said that the investigation will take time and during this time interim bail is being given to the accused while avoiding any kind of haste. This bail has been given on the condition that even after getting bail, the accused should maintain proper conduct and follow the orders of the court. Also, the Supreme Court has directed that the government submit a report on the conduct of the petitioners in the case, so that transparency is maintained in the investigation of the case.
This decision was pronounced by a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh. Justice Suryakant said in his order, “We are not in any kind of hurry and neither do we intend to interfere in the investigation, but we only want to ensure that the accused cooperate in the fair investigation by following the conditions of their bail.”
