Although the elections in West Bengal are still some time away, the political activity there has already intensified. In particular, TMC’s suspended MLA Humayun Kabir has been the subject of much discussion in the last few days. He has announced his intention to erode Mamata Banerjee’s vote bank. Kabir said that he is going to form a new party in Bengal along the lines of AIMIM, in collaboration with Owaisi of Hyderabad. During this time, he also referred to himself as the “Owaisi of Bengal.”
Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has called himself the “Owaisi of Bengal.” He is planning to form a new party to dismantle TMC’s 27% Muslim vote bank, which could bring about a major change in West Bengal politics. However, this is not easy. Although Humayun Kabir is talking about an alliance with AIMIM, Owaisi has already denied any such possibility.
Owaisi gave his word – Humayun
In a conversation with the media, Humayun Kabir said, “I have spoken to Owaisi. Owaisi has given me his word that he is the Owaisi of Hyderabad and I am the Owaisi of Bengal.” He further added that he will go to Kolkata on December 10th and form his party’s committee. After that, he will launch his party on December 22nd with lakhs of supporters.
Will Humayun become a problem for Mamata?
Humayun Kabir has been making headlines across the country for the past month. The TMC expelled him from the party due to his controversial statements and remarks regarding the Babri Masjid foundation stone. In a conversation with the media, he has now made his intentions clear. Humayun said that he will contest elections in 135 constituencies. These are the seats where the Muslim population plays a decisive role. He said, “I will be the game-changer in the Bengal elections. The Trinamool’s Muslim vote bank will be destroyed.”
The Muslim vote in Bengal is considered to belong to Mamata Banerjee, which is approximately 27 to 28 percent. If Humayun manages to make even a 5 to 7 percent dent in this vote bank in the elections next year, it could spell big trouble for Mamata Banerjee.
