Delhi Police has finally arrested Swami Chaitanyananda from Agra. Chaitanyananda is accused of sexually abusing 17 female students of the Sri Sharda Institute of Management in Vasant Kunj. He had been absconding since the students filed an FIR against him. According to reports, Chaitanyananda was staying at a hotel in Agra. Delhi Police arrested him around 3:30 in the morning.
The police will present Chaitanyananda in a Delhi court today. Chaitanyananda had also filed a bail petition in the court to avoid arrest. However, Delhi’s Patiala House Court rejected Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati’s anticipatory bail. During the hearing, Delhi Police informed the court that Chaitanyananda Saraswati had claimed to be a United Nations representative. This led to major action against Swami Chaitanyananda. Approximately ₹8 crore deposited in 18 accounts and 28 fixed deposits was frozen. This money was linked to a trust created by accused Parthasarathi.
What is the full story?
A few days ago, 17 female students of Sri Sharada Institute of Management alleged sexual harassment, stating that Chaitanyananda would forcibly call them to his bedroom at night and force them into physical relations. Furthermore, allegations of installing CCTV cameras in the girls’ hostel rooms also surfaced. In addition to sexual harassment, the police also filed a case against Swami Chaitanyananda for using a fake license plate and fraud using religion. Since the allegations surfaced, Delhi Police had been searching for Chaitanyananda. On Sunday, the accused Chaitanyananda was arrested in Agra.
Obscene Questions to Female Students
According to a Hindustan Times report, the victimized female students allege that Swami asked them obscene questions, such as whether they had had physical relations with anyone and, if so, whether a condom was used. Additionally, he would send WhatsApp messages to female students at night, often saying, “Baby, I love you.”
Several female students also reported being called to his private room late at night and pressured to go on foreign trips. One complainant alleged that an attempt was even made to forcibly take her to Mathura.
Degrees Withheld for Protest
Students who resisted were harassed. Their attendance records were deducted, marks were reduced, and degrees were withheld. The FIR in the case also names three female staff members, including an associate dean. They are accused of pressuring students, demanding they destroy evidence, and even demanding they change their names to conceal their identities.
One victim reported that Swami confiscated her mobile phone, isolated her in the hostel, and monitored her every move. He even threatened to reveal her secret to influential people if she resisted.
