A father said he had brought his 12-year-old daughter to visit Vijay. After the stampede, he thought his daughter had simply fainted and would recover. But when he checked on her again, she was gone.
P. Shivashankari, a woman from Namakkal, said she saw her neighbor fall as the crowd surged forward. “We screamed for help, but no one could move. People fell on top of each other. We couldn’t breathe.”

He also formed an investigation committee headed by a retired High Court judge, which will submit an investigation report on the entire incident.

Tamil Nadu’s acting DGP, G. Venkataraman, said, “Permission for the rally was granted from 3 pm to 10 pm, but the crowd began gathering as early as 11 am. By the time Vijay arrived at 7:40 pm, the crowd had been waiting for hours without food and water.”
He said that Vijay himself praised the police’s performance, but he insisted that party workers should take responsibility for crowd management. The DGP explained that 10,000 people were expected at the rally, but approximately 27,000 gathered. Over 500 police personnel were deployed for the entire event.

Chief Minister MK Stalin said the government has formed a commission to investigate the stampede. It will be headed by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan. He also announced compensation of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh each for the injured.
