Tamil Nadu: ED raids on MLA R Vaithilingam, his property worth crores seized, he has been accused of taking bribe of Rs 27.90 crores.

The ED has attached assets worth more than Rs 100 crore of MLA Vaithilingam, who was a minister in the Tamil Nadu government, and some others. R Vaithilingam has been a minister during the AIADMK government. He is also an MLA at present. Information about the attachment of his property was given by the Enforcement Directorate. A statement issued by the ED said that two immovable properties have been attached. One of these is in Ruchirapalli and the other is registered by Muthammal Estates Private Limited. Vaithilingam, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, represents the Oratanadu seat in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

In 2022, there was a lot of controversy between OPS and the current party chief E.K. Palaniswami. He was expelled from the AIADMK along with OPS. He has also served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

Allegation of taking bribe
The money laundering case by the ED is based on the FIR filed by the Tamil Nadu Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate (DVAC). The FIR alleges that R Vaithilingam, during his tenure, took bribe in a real estate project. He took a bribe of Rs 27.90 crore from Shriram Properties and Infrastructure Private Limited in exchange for giving permission to this project.
